Lovelace Medical Group has added a Critical Care Cardiologist to its Cardiology team. William Mansfield, MD, MPH, FACC will care for patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Heart Hospital of New Mexico at Lovelace Medical Center.
Dr. Mansfield has been serving New Mexico as a Cardiologist since 2010, working for New Mexico Heart Institute in Santa Fe, NM. During that time he served as the Executive Medical Director for the Cardiovascular Service Line for CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Hospital in Santa Fe as well as a member of the Peer Review Committee and the Medical Advisory Council for Cardiovascular Disease.
Dr. Mansfield received a bachelor of arts degree from Saint John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico and then went on to receive a bachelor of science from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He completed his residency in internal medicine, as well as a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Maine Medical Center in Portland, ME. Dr. Mansfield also received a Master of Public Health from The Dartmouth Institute of Health Policy and Clinical Practice at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.
As a Critical Care Cardiologist, Dr. Mansfield will care for patients in the ICU who are critically ill with cardiovascular disease. He will also be assisting with the development and growth of program for patients who have advanced heart failure and require a LVAD (left ventricular assist device), a surgically implanted mechanical pump that works with the heart to help it pump more blood with less work.
In his spare time, Dr. Mansfield enjoys fly fishing, mountain biking, backpacking and being an outdoorsman. He worked with the USDA Forest Service as a wilderness ranger in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains outside Santa Fe and with at-risk youth in wilderness programs for four years, before returning to study medicine.
Dr. Mansfield will be working out of the Heart Hospital of New Mexico at Lovelace Medical Center in downtown Albuquerque at 504 Elm Street NE.
